Located at 48 Kinsey Terrace, the property is now up for auction and is being marketed by Ray White Ferrymead agent Pip Sutton on behalf of the seller, Faye Tunnicliffe.

Faye’s parents Ferne and Ron Every, who also lived on Clifton Hill where Faye has lived all her life, were very close friends of Paul Pascoe.

Because of this connection, this Pascoe and Hall home was originally designed and built in the 1950s for close family friend Nesta Parry, before being passed on through the family to Faye's mother, and now owned by Faye.

Faye’s daughter said Nesta was like another grandmother to the extended family who also lived on Clifton Hill for several generations.

“Nesta worked with my grandfather who was a dentist, and she became a very good friend to my grandmother,” she said.

”My grandparents were close friends with Paul Pascoe, and it was their connection that led Pascoe and Hall to designing Nesta’s home on Kinsey Terrace.

“When Nesta passed away she lef the home to my grandmother, and then my mother Faye lived in the home.”

Faye’s daughter said she had grown up at 20 Kinsey Terrace with her parents, but that home no longer exists after the earthquakes.

“After the earthquakes, my parents moved into 48 Kinsey Terrace as it was a safe place that was familiar to them,” she said.

“My mother intended on it being a temporary move, but she loved it so much she’s been there ever since!

“She went on to have it extensively renovated internally making the kitchen open to the lounge, and this was designed by Faye’s good friend Simon Pascoe, Paul Pascoe's son.

“It’s been a treasured place for the family. I remember playing in the garden growing up.

“Nesta was an incredible gardener, it was like an orchard! One of the original grape vines is still there.”

Faye said the sale was bittersweet, with the garden and view being like a beautiful companion over the years, but it was now time for her to move off the hill where she has lived happily all of her life.

Marketing agent Pip Sutton said it was the ultimate one-bedroom home.

“Pascoe and Hall had a reputation as one of the foremost post-war modernist architectural firms in the country,” she said.

“Houses were carefully planned, modest, and portrayed qualities in tune with the local environment.

“This home was carefully designed to soak in and sync with the incredible environment that surrounds it.

“Perched above Sumner beach and Moncks Bay on the sought after lower slopes of Clifton, its position is superb.

“Tucked away from the cool easterly yet drenched in sun, this property embraces one of Christchurch's most favoured and spectacular views.”
