Located at 91 and 93 Rapata Road, Oakura, a magnificent dual-home estate has hit the market for the first time in more than 30 years.

The property is being marketed by Ray White Whangarei’s Lynne Meldrum on behalf of the vendors, Philip Jay and his family. The properties can be bought together or separately.

Positioned on 1,932sqm of absolute beachfront land with no road in front and complete privacy, the property comprises two separate homes, known locally as the Green House and the Blue Bach, offering a combined 6+ bedrooms, 3+ bathrooms, two kitchens, and expansive indoor–outdoor living spaces.

Purchased by the current owners in the early 1990s, the side-by-side homes have served as a cherished multi-generational retreat and, more recently, a full-time residence with a supplementary holiday rental.

“For us, Oakura has been the perfect playground,” Mr Jay said.

“We’ve launched countless fishing trips, collected big crayfish hauls, water-skied at sunrise, hosted huge family gatherings and watched our kids grow up on this beach.”

Mr Jay said the location was perfect for a Sealegs, with the vessel making life on the property even more enjoyable. He said his Sealegs could be purchased alongside one or both of the properties.

“Landing on Mimiwhangata beach and other secluded spots around the area is a breeze with a Sealegs!” he said.

Mr Jay’s daughter Jessica said she had made some of her favourite memories at the property.

“My first visit to Rapata Road was when I was six days old, and I have returned here for 30 years for family holidays. Needless to say, many of my formative childhood memories were created in Oakura Bay,” she said.

“My favourite moments over summer were always about the sea. A daily staple was seeing the boat pull into the bay and excitedly running down the beach to greet Poppa, Mum and Dad, to help unpack the boat, and see the catch of the day!

“Magical walks around the rocks to the mermaid pool enchanted me as a child, and as an adult. There is something magical about the rugged shoreline around the rocks and the serene privacy of taking a dip in the mermaid pool. As a child I would clamber over the rocks to this pool as quietly as possible, hoping to catch a glimpse of a real mermaid.

“Family boat trips to Mimiwhanagata were a must every summer! I have very fond memories of baking and helping nana pack a picnic for the whole family before setting out on a day trip to the beautiful white sand beach.

“Rapata road will forever hold a special place in my heart, and I can’t wait to see a new family enjoy this home, and create their own memories in its new chapter.”

Over the past few years, both homes have undergone significant upgrades including new kitchens, renovated bathrooms, new decking, repainting, HRV systems, heat pumps and a fully engineered retaining-wall replacement.

Ms Meldrum said the property was an exciting opportunity, with the sale opening the door for the next family to create their own coastal legacy.

“Located at the quiet end of Oakura Beach with excellent boat launching and direct access to harbour walks and nearby Mimiwhangata, the estate is an incredibly rare opportunity to own two waterfront homes together - something unlikely to be replicated,” she said.
